Codex
The Grand Codex of Ko'woli
"The forest is not the only thing that listens."
I. The Players
Michael A'dan
Biological son of Au'b and Hayi'wa. Wielder of the primordial, opinionated Spark and inheritor of the silver-threaded Soles of A'tum. He endures a grueling discipline of Willpower, choosing the bleeding edge of mending over the destructive ease of unmaking.
Au'b Bakira
Broad-shouldered, sun-worn, and built to outlast seasons. The master architect who raised Mawo'ri from ash, binding the citadel's physical stones with careful, living Ko'wolin script embedded directly into the foundations.
Hayi'wa
Known as "the fire of Mawo'ri" across the burning sands. Quick-tempered, fierce, and capable of manifesting devastating defensive wards. She directs Michael's training, forcing him to separate mere habit from bone-deep conviction.
Dju'ul
Michael's younger sister—bright, gentle, and unburdened. Possessing the rare, mirroring two-way Sight, she interprets the glowing ward-light in the citadel walls and translates the world's ancient undercurrents as casually as she speaks to garden beetles.
A'oumou
Nami's granddaughter and Michael’s lifelong confidante. Hyper-sensitive to localized magical friction, she guards the dangerous Almanac of Ko'woli while mastering defensive architecture woven from cool, blue-silver light.
Au'oufa
Michael's dramatic, legendary-seeking companion. Training under the lethal sigils of Say'ili, he grapples with the difficult lesson that ultimate offense requires releasing a spell to gravity rather than trying to force it through brute intention.
Au'oumri
Au'oufa's analytical younger brother. A tactical prodigy who maps structural vulnerabilities with terrifying geometric speed. Though initial combat pressure causes him to freeze, his absolute devotion to the circle remains his greatest strength and his fatal blind spot.
Say'ili
Sharp-tongued, witty, and entirely lethal. She treats defensive hesitation as a failure of imagination, ending engagements instantly through volatile, geometric binding sigils and strikes directed at structural weak points.
Nami
An ancient matriarch anchored on the dangerous outskirts of the citadel in a house woven from charms and river shells. She sealed the Forbidden River over 150 Moons ago, carrying a history intertwined with the forces behind the veil.
II. The Entities & Factions
The Veiled Ones
Vast, silent entities existing behind the fabric of reality. They actively enforce the First Silence by hunting Namers and hoarding primordial vocabulary, desperately working to prevent the cosmic scales from achieving balance.
Bha'gari (The Drummer)
A mysterious, primordial presence whose sudden awakening shifts the cosmic balance. He does not actively hunt the Namer; instead, he beats a rhythm that vibrates through the dark, calling ancient terrors to the light.
Ah'liss (S'urael)
An ancient, golden-eyed weighing serpent who steps into the mortal realm as an imposing woman with iridescent green-black hair. She measures the intent of "Dustlings" who disturb the cosmic balance, guarding the absolute rules of magic.
Jinayi
A terrifyingly powerful, fire-aligned intelligence capable of stepping through the mist. Moving on a scale that makes no allowance for collateral damage, she acts as a volatile savior and a scorching omen of change.
The Dra'woons
The hidden collective of Wo'clo, Mo'clo, and L'aila. Residing within a pocket dimension reached via shifting portal thresholds, they cultivate the sacred Obab trees for magical honey and deep-root flour while tracking the movements of the Veiled Ones.
Sirens
Ancient entities bound directly to the world's primal waterways. They hide their features behind deep shadows; to make direct eye contact with a Siren permanently strips a mortal of their sight, leaving their eyes hollowed by water-magic.
III. The Magic & Cosmic Laws
The Naming
The fundamental manipulation of reality through vocal syllables. A single phrase spoken with proper weight can bind broken matter seamlessly back together or tear an object's elemental blueprint apart.
The Rules of Naming
The three absolute boundaries of the spoken word: Never Name in anger. Never Name out of boredom. Never attempt to un-name that which your soul does not fully comprehend.
The Spark
The ancient, opinionated force slumbering inside a Namer. It possesses a conscious recognition of old magic and must be guided through absolute willpower and alignment, completely resisting brute force.
The Sight
The ability to pierce illusion and perceive the fundamental light of the world. While training can reveal the hidden ward-light inside ordinary stone, the rare Two-Way Sight allows the light to read the practitioner back.
Ko'wolin Maturity
A mental architecture shaped directly by the Light. Ko'wolin children develop emotionally and intellectually at an accelerated pace, comprehending cosmic consequence long before their physical bodies match their inner weight.
The System of the Twin Suns
- The SunsThe greater burning gold and the lesser pale amber, ruling the sky in tandem.
- A Light (1 Day)One full rising and setting of both suns. Soliloquies reference "This Light" or "Last Light."
- A Cycle (12 Lights)The foundational grouping of time across the citadel.
- A Moon (12 Cycles / 144 Lights)The cosmic month. One full Earth year translates to approximately 2.5 Ko'woli Moons.
IV. The Geography
Mawo'ri
A scarred, golden-hued desert citadel that stands as an ember refusing to go cold. Built entirely on language, its stone walls are threaded with a luminous amber ward-light maintained nightly by the city's remaining mystics.
The Forbidden River
An ancient waterway older than language, bound by Nami's water-markers. Its surface reflects no sky; instead, its dark undercurrents prey on the mind, whispering hidden fears in the listener's own voice.
The Mystic Forest
A shifting absence on the horizon. A psychological gauntlet where hallucination fog weaponizes a wanderer's insecurities, serving as the interface between the mortal realm and the entities behind the veil.
Sayi'gun
An ancient academy of scholarship and memory. It houses the deepest ancestral secrets of the Rules of Naming, serving as the ultimate refuge when the portal network begins to buckle.
V. Lore & History
The Great Battle
The catastrophic cosmic war that unmade the ancient world. Mountains rose screaming, oceans boiled to vapor, and the original golden age of Light was shattered into the fragments surviving today.
The First Silence
The modern, fractured state of reality. A deliberate curtain pulled closed by the Veiled Ones—an active erasure designed to keep the world quiet and suppress the awakening power of the Namers.
Lingering Scales
Intangible, malicious whisper-creatures haunting the paths of the Mystic Forest. They do not attack directly; instead, they feed on the pure conflict and terror generated by the forest's psychological fog.
VI. Artifacts & Relics
The Soles of A'tum
Sentient, silver-threaded leather gladiator sandals that respond directly to the Spark. Acting as both anchor and guide, they communicate via varying degrees of heat, pressure, and color, pulling the wearer toward deep places of power.
The Almanac of Ko'woli
A dangerous, leather-bound volume of warding, binding, and lost history currently held by A'oumou. It offers no protection—it is a map that tears open thresholds regardless of whether the reader is ready to cross.
The Breath Bell
A resonant prayer bell that marks the first light in Mawo'ri. Its deep tone echoes across the gold stone, reminding the citizens that the dark is still theirs to command—but not for much longer.
The First Silence is Breaking.
